Let’s give a warm welcome to Kim from A Real-Life Housewife! Kim has so many wonderful tips and ideas that I asked her if she’d like to join us to share this great tip with us! Take it away Kim…
Hello again, Ask Anna readers! Today I am going to share with you an inexpensive and convenient way for how to store foil and plastic wrap.
Here’s what you need:
- Self adhesive hooks (these are the same one’s, sold on Amazon)
These essentials of mine used to be stored in a cupboard underneath the counter along with plastic baggies and wax paper and what not. Each time I needed to wrap something up, I had to bend down and dig through the various boxes to find what I was looking for. So I got looking at those boxes and thinking… and came up with the idea to hang them! The little notches on the ends are perfect for this!
Plastic hooks! And the best part is that they only cost a couple of bucks!
I felt like the pantry door was the best location for my handy wrap and tin foil, mainly because I could place them at a height that was perfect for me. The cupboard doors would have been impractical because they were all too low or high. Plus, they now take up space that was previously going unused!
I took measurements and spaced the hooks 10 5/8 inches apart from inside to inside. The boxes fit on by sliding one end on first and then slightly pulling the other hook so the opposite end can be inserted. The hooks have just the right flimsiness factor to allow you to do this!
And there they are hanging, just waiting to be used! I should note that these hooks are very strong, in that they are really stuck on there. So use caution as to what type of materials you adhere them to! For me, this was the perfect solution for storing my handy wrap and tin foil. They are so much more accessible now, and it’s easy to slip the boxes on as well as take them off! Not to mention, all it took was some pocket change!

Your blog is very hard to read because of the color of text. I would have liked to explore but I had to highlight the text so it would have some contrast so I could read it.
Elaine in Ark says
I have to agree with you, Linda. I’d prefer black text against white (or white-ish) background. I hadn’t t;hought about highlighting the text, so I’m happy about your suggestion.
And it *is* a great site!

You need to be aware of the depth of the boxes so the hooks can reach the holes, so no giant Costco sized rolls here!
Linda says
Very clever idea. An not hard to do it looks like. Keeps from always bending down to find what you are looking for. Thanks for sharing.

Your videos are annoying and I can’t stop them from playing!!!!
Anna says
I’m sorry. You should be able to pause them after the initial 15 second “commercial”.
Kristi says
Awesome! Now if only wrapping paper came with its own sharp tearing strip!

Your font color was perfect! I didn’t have any trouble, so perhaps it was Linda’s screen. I also did not have any video trouble, so do not apologize to these ungrateful people because I love your ideas!!! Can’t wait to pick up these clips! Thank you 🙂

This is awesome! To add a twist to this, those of us who live in apartments can use the “Command” brand hooks with the removable adhesive. Those things really do work and you have less worry about getting in trouble when you move out of your apartment.

Organizing my covers to my many pots, has been a problem . You have given me some great ideas, and this will also work for my foil and plastic wrap, and boxes of sandwich bags. I’m happy now, so, I’ll spend my day tomorrow, reorganizing my kitchen . I love a well organized kitchen !!

I’m a Professional Art Quilter and use lots of supplies that come on rolls (some of which I use in the kitchen also like parchment paper, freezer paper, and wax paper. I also have rolls of other quilting supplies that are too big to fit into any of the drawers in my sewing room. You have now given me THE way to store all of these rolls! I’m lucky enough to have a walk-in closet in my sewing room that my husband fitted with shelves. The front of the door has a hanging bag with pockets where I store lots of small things but most of my rolls are way too big to put there so I have them stuffed in a big box that takes up valuable floor space in my sewing room. Now they are going to be stored on the back of the closet door! You are a genius! I can’t tell you how much this one little idea of yours will make my life sew much easier! (Spelling error was deliberate!)

Thanks, this was super easy to do and works well!

This is such a nifty idea. I also have parchment paper and plastic wrap. This will clean up the place a bit. One question though: What do you do when the foil comes to an end. Replace the hooks?
Anna says
Just replace the foil. You should be able to get the box of foil on and off without a problem. Hooks stay on!
Rosemary Lee says
Just way, way cool!! Thanks! Rosemary
Lisa says
Could you just use command hooks???
Anna says
Yep, that would work too! 🙂
