Why are the gauges turned sideways? I know of one reason, but that does not appear to the case here.

There was a guy on http://www.celica-gts.com/forums/index.php that did one in a 3rd gen ('82-'85) Celica. He started with the engine swap, and it sort of morphed from there into a very well executed hot rod, including major brake upgrades, suspension... Here's a link to his 65 pages of posts that you'd have to go through http://www.celica-gts.com/forums/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=57 - too bad he didn't do an actual writeup on it.

I had all of mine turned in my Chevelle so that their normal operating position had the needle pointing straight up. That made it very easy to make sure everything was okay at a quick glance.

As I said, he didn't make a build thread, so you have to go through all of his posts to catch piece-by-piece bits.

You think a 1.6 is big enough for a corona?

I think it should be the current engine 18rc is about 80hp and the 4age should be around 130 when I'm finished I might turbo it... what engine do you suggest?

Itll prolly workout good. Horsepower wasent really what i was thinking of. I was thinking that the 4AG may not have enough toqure to move the thing, ive been around the block with A series engines there really weak til about 4k then they scream like a banshee and all hell brakes loose lol. Id suggest a truck engine or a I-6 from a 80's supra.

I'm gonna chime in, and suggest the 4age, because it's got a huge aftermarket, they're relatively cheap, and if you're going with a 16v, there are tons of over the counter parts at your local auto parts store. All that aside, a 70-73 corona deluxe only weighs 2000lbs. I feel like a 4age is plenty.
